Gartner Enterprise Information and Master Data Management Summit
It’s almost that time of year again – the Gartner Enterprise Information and Master Data Management Summit is next week in Las Vegas (April 2-4).
The “Enterprise Information” part is new this year. Gartner has broadened the focus from MDM to also include Enterprise Information Management (EIM) as well. I think this is a good move, because in practice, you can’t usually do MDM successfully unless you’re addressing things like business value, return on investment, data governance, metadata management, data quality, data integration, information architecture, and so on.
There are a few parts of EIM that I haven’t spent much time on – records management, e-discovery, content management for unstructured data, for example. But there’s definitely a trend in our client base towards moving into some of these areas, as companies get a better handle on their basic customer and product information. We’re working with a large financial services firm right now, for example, who is addressing enterprise transformation, information architecture, master data management, data governance, metadata management, data quality, real-time and batch data integration,
I’m looking forward to running into a ton of people at this event whom I mostly see at conferences. Some of those contacts have turned into valuable business relationships and friendships since Hub Designs started attending this event. We’ve attended the event 7 times (every year since 2008) and have been sponsors for 5 of those 7 years.
Almost all of the preparations are complete, now we just have to get there! If you’re interested in going and can get yourself to Las Vegas next week, we have a few conference passes left – please contact me at email@example.com or call me at 781-749-8910 if you can take advantage of one of them.
This year, I’m going to be joined by Wayne Eckerson (also from Hingham, Massachusetts. We’re working on a book together called “Making Data Governance Work – Tales from the Trenches”. We expect it to be out in January 2015.
If you’ll be there, stop by and see us in Booth 306. If you’d like to set up a meeting in advance, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 781-749-8910.
